What is a sword rack holder and how does it differ from a peg stand?
Updated Feb 2026
A sword rack holder uses an open frame construction - typically two vertical side members connected by horizontal crossbars that carry the display pegs - rather than a central post or column with tier brackets. This means the swords rest on pegs supported by a frame that you can see through from front to back, rather than a solid structure that blocks the view of the sword from the side. Functionally, both formats hold the sword in the same horizontal edge-up orientation and at the same tier heights. The practical difference is viewing angle: an open frame rack allows the blade, fittings, and saya to be seen from a wider range of angles without the stand structure appearing in the background. From a construction standpoint, an open frame rack distributes its structural load through the frame members and joints rather than through a central column, which requires that the joints be well-made to provide equivalent rigidity. The hardwood racks in this collection use proper joinery throughout.
