What display options work best for an authentic samurai katana?

 Updated Feb 2026

A horizontal katana stand (katana kake) is the most traditional and popular display method. For a single katana, a simple two-peg wooden or lacquered stand works well. For a daisho pair (katana and wakizashi) or a three-piece set including a tanto, multi-tier stands accommodate all pieces at staggered heights. Position the stand away from direct sunlight to protect the lacquer and blade finish. The katana should rest with the cutting edge facing upward and the handle to the left when viewed from the front, following the traditional peacetime display convention that signals the blade is not ready to be drawn in haste.
