How should I care for and maintain my katana sword?

 Updated Feb 2026

Keep your katana lightly oiled with choji oil or mineral oil to prevent oxidation. After handling, wipe the blade with a soft cloth to remove moisture from fingerprints. Store in a dry environment inside the saya scabbard with the edge facing upward. Periodic oiling every few weeks is recommended even if the sword is only on display.
