What blade length and overall dimensions should I expect from a katana sword?
Updated Feb 2026
A standard katana features a blade length (nagasa) between 60 and 80 cm, with most pieces in our collection falling in the 70–74 cm range. The handle (tsuka) adds approximately 25–28 cm, bringing the overall length to around 100–105 cm. Weight typically ranges from 1.0 to 1.3 kg depending on the steel type and blade thickness. The blade curvature (sori) is usually between 1.0 and 2.0 cm, measured as the deepest point of the curve from a straight line between tip and base. These proportions are based on historical standards and provide the balance point that makes the katana distinctive among world sword types.
