Does the red color or scabbard treatment have any effect on the blade’s edge quality or sharpness

None whatsoever. This is a common misconception worth addressing directly. The red color on these katana is applied exclusively to non-blade components: the scabbard receives red lacquer, paint, or leather; the handle cord is dyed red; and metal fittings may receive red-toned patina or coloring. The blade itself is forged, heat-treated, and sharpened as a separate component before being assembled with the red-colored mountings. The steel composition, hardness, edge geometry, and sharpening quality are determined entirely by the forging and sharpening processes, which are completed independently of any color decisions. A red sharp katana in T10 steel has exactly the same metallurgical properties and edge quality as a black or natural-finished T10 katana sharpened to the same standard. The color choice is a purely aesthetic decision that affects visual presentation without touching blade performance.
