What is the best way to display and care for these replicas?
Updated Mar 2026
A horizontal two-tier katana stand is the recommended display format - it keeps the blade level, reduces stress on the saya, and positions the tsuba at a visible angle. For maintenance, apply a thin coat of choji oil or a mineral-based sword oil to the blade every few months using a soft cloth, wiping from the habaki toward the tip. This prevents oxidation on the 1045 carbon steel surface. Avoid high-humidity environments and prolonged direct sunlight, both of which accelerate tarnish on the blade and can degrade the lacquer finish on the scabbard. Never store the blade inside the saya long-term without occasional airing - trapped moisture is the primary cause of surface rust on carbon steel display pieces.
