How should I display and maintain a three-sword katana set?

 Updated Mar 2026

A three-tier horizontal sword stand is the ideal display solution for a Zoro Katana Set, allowing each blade to rest with the edge facing upward and the saya supported evenly along its length. Avoid leaning sayas vertically for extended periods, as this can cause lacquer stress or fitting looseness at the koiguchi over time. For any carbon steel blades in the set, apply a thin coat of choji oil or mineral oil every two to three months using a soft cloth, wiping away excess to prevent buildup. Keep the display away from direct sunlight and humidity extremes — both will degrade tsuka-ito dye and saya lacquer over time. Dust the fittings gently with a dry microfiber cloth rather than any liquid cleaner.
