How should I maintain the yellow blade's finish over time?

 Updated Feb 2026

Because the yellow finish is applied over 1045 carbon steel - a reactive metal - routine maintenance is essential to preserve both the color and the underlying blade. Apply a light coat of camellia oil or food-grade mineral oil to the blade surface every two to three months using a soft cloth or application sheet. Keep the sword away from high-humidity environments such as basements or coastal rooms, as moisture accelerates oxidation on carbon steel. Never use abrasive cloths or chemical cleaners on the blade, as these can strip or scratch the colored finish. When not on display, store the sword horizontally in its saya (scabbard) or a padded display case to protect the finish from dust and accidental contact.
