What steel types are available for collectible Nodachi swords?

The most common options include 1060 carbon steel, high manganese steel, T10 tool steel, and Damascus (folded) steel. 1060 offers a straightforward carbon composition with good hardness around 56-58 HRC and a clean polished finish. High manganese steel provides additional toughness and resilience. T10 tool steel contains tungsten, which improves edge retention and allows for particularly vivid hamon lines when clay tempered. Damascus steel is created by folding multiple layers — often several hundred — producing a distinctive wavy grain pattern visible across the blade surface. Each steel type creates a different visual character on a Nodachi-length blade: T10 with clay tempering highlights dramatic hamon lines across nearly four feet of steel, while Damascus produces intricate layered patterns that become the focal point of any display arrangement.
