How should I display and store a Nidai Kitetsu replica?

 Updated Feb 2026

A horizontal katana stand (katanakake) is the most traditional way to display the Nidai Kitetsu, with the edge facing upward and the tsuka positioned to the left. If wall space is limited, a vertical wall mount works well and highlights the full length of the purple saya. For long-term storage, keep the blade seated in its scabbard and store it in a room with stable humidity below 60 percent. Apply a thin layer of choji oil or light mineral oil to the blade surface every two to three months to prevent surface rust. Avoid touching the steel with bare fingers, as skin oils accelerate oxidation on carbon steel.
