What kind of steel is used in the Yubashiri replica blade?
Updated Feb 2026
Our Yubashiri replicas are forged from 1045 carbon steel, a medium-carbon alloy widely used in collectible sword making. It contains roughly 0.45% carbon content, which provides a good balance between hardness and resilience. Compared to stainless steel display pieces, 1045 carbon steel has a more authentic weight and can develop a subtle patina over time that many collectors find appealing. The trade-off is that carbon steel requires light maintenance — a wipe-down with choji oil or food-grade mineral oil every couple of months prevents surface oxidation and keeps the finish looking sharp.
