How is the red-white marble saya finish made?

 Updated Feb 2026

The hardwood saya is lacquered with a splatter-pattern technique using red and white pigments over the base coat, creating a marble-like surface. Because the pigment distribution is irregular, each saya has a unique pattern. Black sageo cord ties at the kurigata with a decorative tassel knot.
