What maintenance is required for a daisho set of tactical wakizashi and katana?
Updated Feb 2026
Maintaining a daisho set of tactical wakizashi and katana follows the same routine for each individual piece: wipe both blades with a soft lint-free cloth after any handling to remove fingerprints and moisture, then apply a thin coat of camellia or mineral oil to each blade and buff away excess. The advantage of a matched set is that both pieces can be maintained in the same session using the same materials and the same amount of time. For color-treated blades in the tactical aesthetic, use only soft cloths with light pressure on blade surfaces - never abrasive materials. Store both pieces in their respective scabbards in stable-humidity conditions. For a daisho stand display, periodically check that the stand is level and stable and that both pieces are fully seated in their brackets.
