Can a double katana stand display two identical katana side by side?
Updated Feb 2026
A double katana stand displays two swords on separate tiers, one above the other, rather than side by side on the same tier. If you want to display two identical katana in parallel on the same horizontal level, you would need either two single-tier stands placed side by side or a wider single-tier stand with two sets of pegs. The double tier format is specifically designed for the daisho convention or for displaying two swords at different heights as a vertically composed pair. That said, displaying two identical katana on a double tier stand - one above the other at slightly different heights - creates an interesting visual effect that emphasizes their similarity while giving each sword its own display space. The offset between tiers makes both swords simultaneously visible without either obscuring the other, which is actually harder to achieve with a side-by-side arrangement where the swords are very close together.
