What’s the difference between a $150 and a $300 wakizashi?

 Updated Feb 2026

The primary differences are steel grade and fitting refinement. At $150, you typically get manganese steel with simpler tsuba designs and standard finishing. At $300, T10 clay-tempered steel with hamon becomes available, fittings feature more detailed sculptural work, and overall finishing receives additional attention. The construction method — hand-forged, full-tang, traditional assembly — is identical at both price points. The $150 piece is a genuine handmade sword; the $300 piece is a more refined one.
