A daisho (大小, meaning "big-small") is the traditional paired sword set carried by samurai — a full-length katana and a shorter wakizashi with matching fittings. The daisho was the defining symbol of samurai status during Japan's feudal era. In modern collecting, a daisho display pairs a katana and wakizashi on a single stand with coordinated scabbard colors, handle wrapping, and tsuba designs. Many collectors start with a small samurai sword and later add a matching katana to complete the set.
