How should I clean and care for a ceramic sake set?

 Updated Mar 2026

For ceramic sake sets with matte or semi-matte gray glazes, hand washing with warm water and a soft cloth is the safest approach. Avoid abrasive sponges, which can scuff matte glaze surfaces and dull their finish over time. Dishwashers are generally not recommended for hand-crafted ceramic pieces, as repeated high-heat cycles can stress the glaze and cause micro-crazing. For stoneware pieces with partially unglazed areas (such as an unglazed foot ring), dry thoroughly before storing to prevent moisture absorption. When displaying long-term without use, a dry dusting cloth is sufficient. The bamboo tray should be kept away from standing water to prevent warping or mold.
