How does T10 steel compare to 1095 and 1045 carbon steel?
T10 has higher hardness than 1045 and comparable hardness to 1095, but with better toughness due to its tungsten content. In practical terms, T10 holds an edge longer than 1045 or 1060 steel, and resists chipping better than 1095. T10 also responds exceptionally well to clay tempering, producing clear and dramatic real hamon lines. The main trade-off is price — T10 swords are typically more expensive than 1045 or 1060 options, reflecting the premium steel and more complex forging process required.
