What does 'life-size yoroi' mean for display purposes?
Updated Mar 2026
A life-size yoroi reproduction is scaled to fit the body dimensions of an adult, typically displayed on a purpose-built mannequin stand included with the suit. Unlike miniature or desk-scale models, these full-size pieces measure approximately 5.5 to 6 feet in total display height including the kabuto and crest ornament. This scale allows collectors to appreciate the actual visual weight and compositional balance that a samurai would have presented on the battlefield - the proportional relationship between the do (chest armor), osode (shoulder guards), kusazuri (tassets), and kabuto is only fully readable at true human scale. For interior display, plan for a floor space of roughly 2 by 2 feet plus clearance for the helmet crest, which on some pieces like the Masamune Date or Sanada suits adds significant vertical height.
