How should I store and maintain my Fujitora replica blade?

 Updated Mar 2026

Proper storage extends the life of any carbon steel collectible. Keep the blade lightly coated with a thin layer of mineral oil or dedicated sword oil, wiping it down with a soft cloth after handling to remove fingerprint oils that can accelerate surface oxidation. Store the sword horizontally in its saya in a climate-controlled environment - avoid areas with high humidity fluctuations, which can cause both the steel and the wooden saya to expand, contract, and eventually warp. If displaying vertically, ensure the saya fits snugly to prevent the blade from shifting. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which can fade lacquered saya finishes over time.
