What steel is used, and how does it affect display quality?

These replicas use 1045 carbon steel, which contains approximately 0.45% carbon content. This grade is widely used in collectible sword production because it machines and polishes cleanly, allowing for a refined surface finish that photographs well and holds up to display without significant warping. It does require basic maintenance — unlike stainless steel, 1045 carbon steel can develop light surface oxidation if left untreated in humid environments. A thin coat of mineral oil or choji oil applied every few months is sufficient to preserve the blade's appearance. For indoor display in climate-controlled spaces, many collectors go months between applications.
