What steel is used, and does it affect display quality?

 Updated Feb 2026

Each Shinobu Nichirin replica in this collection is constructed from 1045 carbon steel, a medium-high carbon alloy commonly used in quality collectible and replica swords. For display purposes, 1045 carbon steel offers excellent structural rigidity - blades hold their geometry without warping over time - and accepts surface polishing well, which allows the pale lavender gradient finish to read cleanly under ambient or accent lighting. It is not a stainless alloy, so occasional light oiling (a few drops of mineral or camellia oil on a soft cloth, wiped along the blade surface) every few months will keep the finish free of oxidation, especially in humid environments.
