How should I maintain a white-finished katana on display?

White or pale-finished blades show fingerprint oils and environmental oxidation more readily than darker finishes, so a basic maintenance routine matters. Apply a light coat of choji oil or food-grade mineral oil to the blade every 30–60 days using a clean cotton cloth, and always handle the blade with clean cotton gloves to prevent skin oils from etching the surface. Store the sword horizontally on a display stand, edge facing up in the traditional manner, in a low-humidity environment. Avoid displaying near windows with direct sunlight or in rooms with significant temperature swings, as condensation cycles can introduce rust. Keep the white lacquered saya clean with a dry microfiber cloth.
