What's the best way to display and maintain these replicas?
Updated Feb 2026
A horizontal katana stand (katanakake) with two cradle rests is the most traditional display method, positioning the blade edge-up with the tsuka facing left. For wall mounting, a vertical or angled rack keeps the sword secure and visible. Maintenance is straightforward: apply a thin coat of choji oil or refined mineral oil to the blade every four to six weeks, wiping with a soft microfiber cloth to prevent fingerprint corrosion. Store in a climate-controlled room away from direct sunlight and high humidity. If you keep the sword in its saya for extended periods, remove it periodically to check for moisture buildup, as trapped humidity inside a wooden scabbard can accelerate surface oxidation on carbon steel.
