How is the Shusui different from Zoro's other swords?
Updated Feb 2026
In the One Piece storyline, the Shusui is classified as a Kokuto — a blade that has been permanently hardened to black, a status none of Zoro’s other swords share at that point in the narrative. Visually, this translates to a jet-black blade body contrasted by a vivid crimson hamon, whereas the Wado Ichimonji features a clean white saya and polished steel look, and the Sandai Kitetsu uses a red-accented scabbard with a more traditional silver blade. The Shusui also has a distinctive cross-shaped tsuba and purple handle wrapping, making it immediately identifiable in any multi-sword display. In terms of replica construction, all use 1045 carbon steel and full-tang builds, but the finishing treatments differ to match each sword’s unique anime design.
