What makes the Sandai Kitetsu different from Nidai Kitetsu?
Updated Feb 2026
In One Piece lore, the Kitetsu swords form a three-blade lineage, each ranked by grade — Sandai (third generation) and Nidai (second generation) sit at different tiers of that hierarchy. The Sandai Kitetsu is a Wazamono-grade blade associated with Zoro, while the Nidai Kitetsu is ranked higher as a Ryuo Wazamono-grade sword. In replica form, this distinction is reflected primarily through aesthetics: the Sandai Kitetsu features a vivid red lacquer saya with aggressive, angular fittings, while the Nidai Kitetsu uses a deep purple scabbard with more refined detailing that signals its elevated status. Both replicas use 1045 carbon steel construction, so the difference a collector experiences is visual and contextual rather than material.
