How should I store and maintain a Sasuke katana collectible?

 Updated Feb 2026

High-carbon steel blades — including T10 and 1065 — require periodic light oiling to prevent surface oxidation. Apply a small amount of choji oil or food-grade mineral oil to a soft cloth and wipe the blade in long, even strokes from base to tip. Avoid touching the blade surface with bare hands, as skin oils accelerate rust formation on uncoated carbon steel. Store the katana horizontally on a dedicated sword stand or resting within its saya, away from direct sunlight, which can fade lacquerwork and dry out the wooden saya over time. Inspect the koiguchi — the saya's mouth opening — periodically for fit; a loose fit can allow moisture to collect around the blade. With this basic routine, a display-grade Sasuke katana collectible will retain its visual and material quality for many years.
