Frequently Asked Questions

What is 65Mn manganese steel and why is it used here?
65Mn is a high-carbon spring steel alloyed with manganese, giving it a notably higher tensile toughness than standard carbon steels in the same price range. The manganese content improves hardenability and contributes to a denser grain structure after heat treatment, which is part of why blades made from this material hold their geometry well during long-term display. For collectors, the practical benefit is a blade that resists micro-warping over time — particularly relevant in pieces stored horizontally or displayed at angle. The steel also responds well to blackening treatments, producing the deep, even darkened finish that defines the aesthetic of this collection. It is a material that rewards proper maintenance and develops a subtle surface character over the years.
How does the ninjato silhouette differ from a standard katana?
The ninjato is generally characterized by a straighter, shorter blade profile compared to the pronounced curvature of the traditional katana. While the katana's sori — its arc — is a defining visual and functional feature rooted in centuries of Japanese sword-making tradition, the ninjato's near-straight or gently curved geometry gives it a more angular, utilitarian appearance that collectors often find visually distinct in a display context. The Chokuto-style variant in this collection pushes that straightness further, drawing on an even older Japanese blade lineage that predates the curved tachi form. For collectors assembling a multi-piece Japanese blade display, the ninjato's straight silhouette provides a compelling visual counterpoint to curved katana or wakizashi pieces.
Are these ninjato pieces full-tang in construction?
Yes. Full-tang construction means the steel of the blade extends continuously through the entire length of the handle, rather than terminating at a short stub or rat-tail tang inserted into a wooden core. For display collectibles, this matters because it eliminates the most common point of structural failure in lower-grade pieces — the joint between blade and handle. Over time, a partial-tang handle can loosen, shift, or develop play at the collar. Full-tang pieces in this collection maintain handle integrity indefinitely when stored properly, making them more suitable for long-term collection display and for passing between collectors without degradation in structural quality.
How should I care for the darkened blade finish?
The blackened finish on 65Mn steel is a treated surface layer, not an impervious coating, so it benefits from regular light maintenance. After handling, wipe the blade down with a clean, lint-free cloth to remove fingerprint oils, which are mildly acidic and can cause uneven spotting over time. Apply a thin film of mineral oil or food-grade camellia oil every few months, or more frequently in humid or coastal environments. Avoid abrasive cloths or polishing compounds, which will strip the blackened finish and expose raw steel beneath. Store the blade in its saya when not on display, and keep it away from prolonged direct sunlight, which can cause uneven fading of lacquered or leather-wrapped scabbard surfaces.
Are dragon-themed ninjato pieces a good gift for collectors?
Dragon-motif blade collectibles have consistent appeal across collector communities, particularly among those interested in East Asian mythology, Japanese cultural history, or theatrical display aesthetics. The gold-and-black dragon tsuba and matching saya designs in this collection create a visually unified set that presents well both on display stands and within gift packaging. For recipients who already own Japanese blade pieces in neutral or traditional finishes, a dragon-themed ninjato introduces a bolder visual note without clashing with subdued pieces nearby. It is worth pairing the gift with a bottle of camellia oil and a soft maintenance cloth — a practical addition that signals genuine care for the recipient's collection.

Features: very heavy and not so sharp, no I didn't plan to cut the heads with it, only for cosplay, but if I would find something attractive as this with T10 steel, I'd rather prefer it.

Honestly, I was a bit skeptical as this was my first time ordering from True Katana. I could not be happier with the purchase.

The quality exceeded my expectations for the price. I constantly want to hold the sword because it just feels right.

It shipped incredibly quick and came ahead of the projections.

I will be buying another sword...the question is which one as there are so many beautiful designs to choose from.

I’m honestly very happy about my order the sword has incredible detail and the overall design is amazing for the price. You won’t regret buying this sword trust me this is a well designed and crafted sword in all aspects. Wish it was a bit sharper so I can cut through things a bit easier but I’m fairly certain theres some legal things that don’t allow the seller to do that, but regardless amazing product and amazing craftsmanship.
